Editors’ Roles

The Editorial Team of the Journal of Intelligent Geotechnical Engineering and Foundations provides the academic leadership and subject expertise necessary to maintain the Journal’s scholarly quality, integrity, and relevance. The team works collectively while preserving editorial independence and follows established principles of responsible research and publication. Its responsibilities include guiding the Journal’s academic direction, overseeing the assessment and peer-review of submissions, ensuring appropriate editorial decision-making, and supporting the continued development of the Journal as a forum for innovative research in intelligent geotechnical engineering and foundation technologies.

Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief has primary responsibility for the academic and editorial direction of the Journal. The role includes establishing editorial priorities, maintaining scholarly standards, overseeing the manuscript evaluation and peer-review system, appointing and coordinating members of the Editorial Team, and making final editorial decisions. The Editor-in-Chief also works to strengthen the Journal’s international profile, encourage high-quality submissions, and promote responsible and transparent publishing practices.

Deputy Editor

The Deputy Editor assists the Editor-in-Chief in the effective management of editorial activities and the implementation of the Journal’s academic policies. Responsibilities may include preliminary assessment of submissions, coordination of peer review, monitoring manuscript progress, supporting communication with editors and reviewers, and assisting with editorial planning. The Deputy Editor may also undertake delegated responsibilities and act on behalf of the Editor-in-Chief when appropriate.

Associate Editors

Associate Editors oversee manuscripts that fall within their respective areas of expertise. They assess submissions for suitability, identify and invite qualified independent reviewers, monitor the peer-review process, evaluate reviewer feedback, and provide evidence-based recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief. Associate Editors are expected to exercise sound academic judgment while ensuring that manuscripts receive fair, consistent, and appropriately rigorous evaluation.

Editorial Board Members

Editorial Board Members contribute specialist knowledge across the broad disciplines represented by the Journal, including geotechnical engineering, foundation engineering, soil and rock mechanics, computational modelling, artificial intelligence, intelligent sensing, underground construction, numerical methods, and related fields. They may participate in peer review, advise on emerging areas of research, contribute to the Journal’s academic development, and support the expansion of its scholarly and professional community. Board Members are expected to contribute actively to the Journal rather than serving solely in an honorary capacity.

Editorial Standards and Responsibilities

All members of the Editorial Team are expected to uphold the principles of academic integrity, confidentiality, fairness, and editorial independence. They must appropriately disclose and manage actual or potential conflicts of interest and should not use confidential information obtained through the editorial process for personal or professional advantage. Editorial decisions must be based on the scholarly quality, originality, methodological soundness, significance, and relevance of a submission rather than on the authors’ identity, institutional affiliation, nationality, gender, or other inappropriate considerations.

Editorial Team members should also ensure that manuscripts are handled consistently with the Journal’s peer-review, research-integrity, authorship, conflict-of-interest, data, and publication-ethics policies. Where concerns relating to research misconduct or publication integrity arise, appropriate procedures should be followed to protect the accuracy and reliability of the scholarly record. The Editorial Team collectively supports the Journal’s commitment to rigorous, transparent, ethical, and internationally respected scholarly publishing.
