Prof. Dr. Fan Gu

Dr. Fan Gu is a full professor at the School of Transportation Engineering at Changsha University of Science and Technology in China, specializing in geomaterials modeling and characterization. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Research Professor at the National Center for Asphalt Technology at Auburn University in the United States and a Marie Curie Research Fellow at Aston University in the United Kingdom. He received a B.Sc. degree (with Honor) in Transportation Engineering in June 2008 and an M.Sc. degree (with Honor) in Pavement and Railroad Engineering in March 2010 both from Southeast University in China, and a PhD degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University (TAMU).

Dr. Gu has more than 10 years of experience in laboratory characterization of pavement materials, and modeling the mechanical behavior of these materials. He has been a Principal Investigator for 15 national and state-level research projects, and Co-Principal Investigator in a number of national research projects. He has authored over 70 publications in a variety of prestigious journals, and made over 20 lectern presentations at international conferences. He has been awarded as an outstanding reviewer of the Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering in 2015, 2016, and 2019. In 2017, he was awarded a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship by the European Commission, which is a highly prestigious recognition for young professionals. Dr. Gu is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.
